Injunction Is Issued to Stop Coerced Abortion

Share

A Superior Court judge Friday issued a permanent injunction that prevents the parents of a high school senior from trying to coerce the girl into having an abortion.

The girl, a 17-year-old cheerleader from the Whittier area, was minutes away from undergoing an abortion Jan. 11 when her boyfriend and two lawyers rushed into the clinic and stopped the procedure. The lawyers, from the Anaheim-based Western Center for Law and Religious Freedom, had obtained a temporary restraining order the day before, after telling Superior Court Judge John A. Torribio that the girl wanted to have the baby but was being pressured by her parents into having an abortion.

After the parents decided to go along with their daughter’s wishes, Torribio issued the injunction.
