Citing the Persian Gulf War, Algeria has asked all foreign journalists except permanent correspondents to leave the country, the Interior Ministry said in a statement published Friday by the official news agency APS.

Accusing foreign journalists of “regrettable behavior, provocation, manipulation and disinformation,” the ministry said it would not accredit any foreign journalists.

It was not known how many journalists were affected.

Tens of thusands of Algerians staged a pro-Iraqi demonstration Friday organized by the fundamentalist Islamic Salvation Front, police and witnesses said.
