From Times Staff and Wire Reports

French Premier Michel Rocard met with Zou Jiahua, China’s minister for planning, in Paris, effectively ending a 1 1/2-year ban on contacts with China by senior governor officials. The ban was one of the sanctions France imposed on China after the June, 1989, crackdown in which several hundred pro-democracy demonstrators were killed. The European Community, which includes France, decided in October to lift nearly all of its sanctions. Zou and Rocard discussed various cooperation and development projects, the Persian Gulf War and dissident trials.
