COUNTYWIDE : United Way Funds on a Record Pace

Share

Ventura County United Way has received $4.8 million in contributions from area businesses and residents since Sept. 1, more than they have ever received by this point in its annual campaign, spokeswoman Sylvia Schnopp said Friday.

The organization hopes to raise the total to $6 million by spring.

Although the fund-raising campaign will last another couple of months, Schnopp said, no specific date has been set for reaching the goal.

“We work to accommodate companies” who give donations to the organization, she said.

Much of the nonprofit organization’s revenues come from local businesses, including corporate gifts and funds solicited from employees. Federal employees in the county made the largest donation of $861,000, Schnopp said.

Other donors include the Rockwell International Science Center, which gave $120,731; Ventura County employees, $253,461; and Bank of A. Levy, $78,750.

The United Way assists 64 local nonprofit agencies, including Conejo Valley YMCA, Simi Free Clinic, Catholic Charities, Camarillo Hospice and local Boys and Girls clubs.
