Survey results--A story in the Jan. 20 Real Estate section on a survey of leading residential brokerages should have stated that only independently owned real estate firms, not franchise companies, were included in the survey. The scope of the survey was incorrectly stated by National Relocation and Real Estate magazine, which conducted the polling. Also, the headquarters of Fred Sands Realtors was incorrectly reported as Santa Ana; it is Los Angeles.

The survey, by Westport, Conn.-based National Relocation and Real Estate magazine, ranked the firm as No. 6 in total residential transactions.

Other Southern California brokerage firms that were also ranked in the survey include the Jon Douglas Co., also of Beverly Hills, which ranked No. 5 in dollar volume, with $6.1 billion, and No. 18 in transactions, with 13,250; Tarbell Realtors of Santa Ana, which ranked No. 6 in dollar volume, with $4.75 billion, and No. 4 in transactions, with 24,300, and Fred Sands Realtors, also of Santa Ana, which ranked No. 7 in dollar volume, with $4.6 billion, and No. 19 in transactions, with 11,948.

Great Western Real Estate of Yorba Linda, Century 21 Emery Real Estate of Fullerton, Herbert Hawkins Real Estate of Pasadena, and RE/MAX Beach Cities Realty of Manhattan Beach ranked lower but were also mentioned on the Top 100 MegaBroker list compiled from the survey.

For the second year, the survey revealed a consolidation among the leaders in the residential real estate industry and a trend toward larger offices.
