Operation Rescue Under Fire

Share

I see once again that we have to be hesitant about yet another aspect of our lives so that the Operation Rescue people don’t interfere with our personal choices. First, they march and scream telling me they want to legislate my reproductive choices. Now they’re trying to take away people’s right to the dignity of not living a pointless vegetative existence.

No one can understand the anguish that the Cruzan family has endured and for a group of people who know neither the family nor their anguish, to speak of “rescuing” Nancy Cruzan is an outrage. I think Americans in general are tired of these people looking down their narrow little noses and using their even narrower little minds to think of new ways to invade our freedoms.

I would like to die surrounded by the people I love and trust to carry out my wishes. The thought of being slapped on a gurney, spirited into the night and having a feeding tube jammed in my stomach at some Operation Rescue hideaway is abhorrent to me. If these religious zealots spent half their time and energy on the homeless, educating the illiterate or helping the abused children already here then they would maybe not earn my agreement but perhaps my respect, but until that day they are religious fanatics, nothing more, nothing less.
