WORLD : Cargo Vessel Sinks Off Malta

PIRAEUS, Greece —
A cargo ship with a crew of 35 on board sank in rough seas off Malta early today, a harbor official said. Rescuers picked up four survivors and 16 bodies, but 15 more people were missing and feared dead.
The official said the Bombay-registered carrier Continental Lotus sent out a distress signal at 4 a.m. saying that its engines had stopped and that it was taking on water.
