* Barkev (Bob) Nalbandian; Grocery Store Owner

Barkev (Bob) Nalbandian, who owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store in Montrose for 13 years, has died at his store. He was 63.

A resident of Montrose, Nalbandian died Thursday after he was shot at work by a pair of robbers, said his son, Allen Nalbandian.

Born in Aleppo, Syria, Nalbandian lived in Iraq before coming to the United States in 1978. He then bought Florencita Market on Florencita Avenue in Montrose, which he ran until the time of his death. Nalbandian was a member of the Armenian Family Assn. in Glendale and the Armenian General Benevolent Union and the Takeyan Cultural Organization, both in Pasadena.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Armenuhi Nalbandian of Montrose; son Allen Nalbandian of San Francisco; daughters Karol Nalbandian of Montrose and Leena Askar of Baghdad, Iraq; sisters Aravalous Nalbandian and Arshalous Nalbandian, both of Mosul, Iraq; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is planned for 7 p.m. tonight at the Church of the Recessional at Forest Lawn Memorial Park-Glendale, 1712 S. Glendale Ave., in Glendale, which is handling the arrangements. A funeral, with burial to follow, is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Recessional at Forest Lawn Memorial Park-Glendale. Donations can be made in Nalbandian’s name to a scholarship fund, in care of the Armenian General Benevolent Union.
