COSTA MESA : Bilingual Volunteers Sought by Charity
The Someone Cares soup kitchen is seeking bilingual volunteers to help communicate with its largely Latino clientele.
Art Rorden, a spokesman for the charity, said Spanish-speaking volunteers are needed for emergency situations that might require translation and to generally help develop a better relationship between the charity’s staff and its clientele.
Rorden said none of the approximately 45 volunteers at the charity speak Spanish. He estimated that 70% of the people who use the services are Latino immigrants.
The soup kitchen operates at the South Coast Christian Church, 792 Victoria St., from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Anyone interested in volunteering may call executive director Merle Hatleberg at (714) 631-8170 or Art Rorden at (714) 969-5822.
