Treaties

The government of IRAQ abrogated all existing treaties and agreements with SAUDI ARABIA, including a bilateral NONAGGRESSION PACT. The official Iraqi News Agency said the Revolutionary Command Council under President Saddam Hussein made the decision after the Saudis “violated these accords by joining the treacherous aggression launched by the United States and its allied Atlantic forces against Iraq.” Hussein had issued an open letter to King Fahd of Saudi Arabia on Jan. 14, suggesting that because of the nonaggression pact foreign troops to defend Saudi Arabia were unneccessary.
