THE GULF WAR: The Battle Front : Iraqi Decoys

Share

Iraq is making wide use of FAKE BUILDINGS AND WEAPONS SYSTEMS to deceive allied bombers, military sources said. The tactic--most effective in bad weather--was first disclosed by British Armed Forces Minister Archie Hamilton, who said planes hunting mobile Iraqi Scud missile launchers might be attacking cardboard and plywood decoys. Sources said the Iraqis produced a wide range of other decoys including communications centers, factories and storage bunkers at chemical weapons plants, the sources said. The Iraqis, who have learned much of their military doctrine from Moscow, were also thought to have built dummy aircraft shelters, planes and artillery. Some may even emit fake electronics signals.
