Applications Open for 11-Month Assembly Fellowship Program

Share

Applications for the 1991-92 Jesse Marvin Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program are now available.

College graduates have the opportunity to become a full-time staff member in an Assembly member’s office or committee for 11 months. Fellows gain firsthand knowledge of the California Legislature through work experience in the Capitol and regularly scheduled academic seminars conducted by Cal State Sacramento. Fellows receive assignments similar to those of legislative assistants and committee consultants including constituent services, tracking legislation, bill analysis and legislative proposal research.

Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $1,560, plus medical, dental and vision benefits. In addition, fellows will receive the equivalent of one semester of graduate course credits from the university.

Applicants must have received their college degree by the time the fellowship year begins, Oct. 1. There is no preferred major and those with advanced degrees or those in mid-career are also encouraged to apply. Eighteen fellows will be selected in May, after initial screening and interviews.

The Assembly Fellowship Program was established in 1957 and was renamed in 1987 as a tribute to the former Speaker.

Applications are available from Assemblyman Tom Mays’ office, 4510 E. Pacific Coast Highway, Suite 550, Long Beach, 90804. For more information, call 986-1390. The deadline for applications is March 1.
