NATION : N.J. Death Sentence Upheld
New Jersey’s Supreme Court today upheld the death sentence for the businessman whose conviction for arranging his wife’s murder was the subject of the best-selling book “Blind Faith.”
The decision marked the first time the state’s highest court has upheld the death penalty since the state instituted its new capital punishment law in 1982.
The Marshall case was chronicled in author Joe McGinnis’ book, “Blind Faith,” published in 1989, and was the subject of an NBC miniseries aired last February.
Marshall, 50, was convicted and sentenced to death for arranging the murder of his wife, Maria, so he could collect $1.5 million in life insurance and continue an extramarital affair with Sarann Kraushaar, a former school administrator who later testified against him.
