Countywide : CLIPBOARD : Sales and Use Tax Revenues

Orange County cities received $21 million in sales and use tax revenues from the state in December. But that was 28% less than the amount rebated in December, 1989. The majority of individual cities (22) got less this December too, with Villa Park registering the largest drop. Six cities, however, did earn more, led by a 220% increase in La Palma.

Each month, city and county governments and other governmental organizations receive payments from the state in anticipation of actual sales tax revenues. In the fourth month, they receive a cleanup payment--the difference between actual revenues and the amounts previously received--plus the first advance payment for the next quarter. These latest amounts represent the cleanup payment for third quarter 1990 and the first advance payment for the fourth quarter of 1990.
