OAK PARK : Sanitation District to Ponder Cityhood

Share

In a move that could speed Oak Park on the road to incorporation, the Triunfo County Sanitation District is scheduled Monday to consider filing a cityhood request on behalf of the community.

The five-member sanitation board will consider a request by Director Ron Stark to initiate an Oak Park cityhood study with the Ventura County Local Agency Formation Commission.

In making his request, Stark cited a case in which the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District last year made the request on behalf of the Los Angeles County community of Calabasas.

“There’s a lot of similarities and there are some differences,” sanitation district Manager David Burkhart said Friday.

Stark, who also serves on a council that represents Oak Park, said he only wants the district to authorize a study of the tax base to see if incorporation is possible.

Oak Park officials want to cut off Simi Valley’s plans to annex entertainer Bob Hope’s Jordan Ranch, where a development of 750 homes is planned, he said.

“I want the residents of Oak Park to have a say in how the land is going to be used,” he said.
