Gov. Wilson’s Proposed Budget Cuts
I am writing in response to “No New Teachers in His Budget, Wilson Concedes” (Jan. 17). I have been a volunteer at my children’s elementary school for four years. Volunteers are indeed a help, but they cannot replace good teachers and money desperately needed for supplies and salaries.
Wilson said that “he will urge private businesses to give time off to employees who volunteer at their local schools.” This is an unworkable plan. There are very few people willing to donate their time on a consistent basis. While he’s at it, why doesn’t Wilson just ask these private businesses to donate money to the schools?
