BLACK AND WHITE

Share

I am a white woman married to a black man. In the 10 years we’ve been together, we’ve had only a handful of negative experiences. Both of our immediate families have been open and supportive of our relationship. The negative experiences we’ve had have come from extended family or strangers. Both of us feel that your article didn’t show any of the positive parts of an interracial relationship.

My husband and I consider ourselves lucky to be part of another culture. My husband hasn’t abandoned his African-American culture, nor have I abandoned my European culture. There have been many situations where he’s been the only black person or I’ve been the only white person in a room, but we have never felt isolated, as did one of the women in your article. I believe the feeling comes from within.
