An Anaheim woman was shot in the back Monday when four robbers invaded her home, police said.

Karen C. Keolasy, 23, was listed in fair condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

The shooting occurred at about 12:20 p.m. when the men broke into Keolasy’s house in the 1000 block of North Dresden Street, Sgt. Tom King said.

“During the robbery, one of the suspects fired a single shot in the victim’s back,” King said. “It appeared that she did not know them.”

Police said they could not immediately determine what the robbers had taken from the house. They were described only as young men of Asian extraction.

Investigators believe that the shooting was the latest in a string of home invasions by Asian gangs who prey on fellow Asians, Detective Sgt. Chet Berry said.

Keolasy’s sister, Sharon Keolasy, called home from work after the shooting, said:

“They tried to get inside the house before, but they didn’t get anything.” She declined to elaborate.

However, the Keolasys’ next-door neighbor, Ron MacDonald, 66, said a robbery attempt on the Keolasys’ house a few months ago failed when the family scared off the robbers.

“I’ve lived here for 36 years and we all live together in this quiet neighborhood,” MacDonald said. “You get concerned about this stuff when five cop cars come screaming near your house.”
