World IN BRIEF : EL SALVADOR : Army, Rebels Clash; At Least 15 Killed
Heavy fighting between government troops and leftist rebels left at least 15 people dead and several wounded over the weekend, military officials said. The Armed Forces Press Committee said two civilians were wounded in confrontations in the central provinces of San Salvador and San Vicente and in the northern guerrilla stronghold of Chalatenango. In a separate incident, no one claimed responsibility for the death of a boy who stepped on a mine in the eastern province of Morazan, and the shooting and wounding of a 4-year-old girl on the road to Semsembra, also in Morazan.
