From Times Wire Services

Negotiations between the New York Times and the union representing its truck drivers have failed to produce an agreement on how to operate the newspaper’s new multimillion-dollar automated printing plant, the newspaper reported today.

As a result, the paper is exercising its right to submit the dispute to binding arbitration and has withdrawn its final offer to the Newspaper and Mail Deliverers Union.

The newspaper’s management has said that the $450-million plant in Edison, N.J., will not open until agreements are reached between the newspaper and the seven unions representing the plant’s future workers.
