The final phase of Wood Ranch has been approved by the Simi Valley City Council.

The council on Monday unanimously approved the Long Canyon Village project, which calls for 680 residences to be built on 1,885 acres south of Madera Road and east of Bard Reservoir in the southwest corner of Simi Valley.

The development will include 57 ranch-style houses on larger lots, 450 single-family houses and 153 clustered townhouses as well as a public and private equestrian center and a public park.

The developer, New York-based Olympia/Roberts Co., also plans to extend 1st Street to Madera Road to ease access to Long Canyon Village.

The development will bring the total number of residences in the Wood Ranch community to 4,026.

Council members said they were pleased with the design of the last phase of the exclusive subdivision.

Because Olympia/Roberts’ original development agreement with the city was approved before the adoption of Simi Valley’s slow-growth ordinance in 1986, the developer can apply for building permits immediately, said Wolf Ascher, Simi Valley’s planning manager.

However, Bob Levenstein of Olympia/Roberts said the developer would not begin building for at least a year.
