World IN BRIEF : POLAND : Proposal to Reduce Military Draft Told

Poland announced plans to reduce the requirement for military service from 24 months to 12 months and said that outside threats to security were being replaced by increased crime within its borders. Defense Minister Piotr Kolodziejczyk disclosed the proposed change in policy after a meeting on military and defense issues with President Lech Walesa.
