Deadline April 3 to Submit Home Projects

Share

Developers proposing residential projects have until April 3 to obtain tentative City Council approval of their plans before entering an annual competition for a limited number of home-building permits.

Since the passage of a citywide growth-control law in 1986, the council reviews proposed development projects and issues permits for up to 500 new homes a year.

This year, 11 developments totaling more than 1,300 homes are expected to enter the competition, according to a report by Bob Goldin, principal planner.

These projects include homes in Forster Ranch, Rancho San Clemente and Talega Valley, the city’s newest tract home area along San Clemente’s eastern edge.

According to a schedule proposed by Goldin and adopted last week by the council, the projects would be reviewed by city staff in May and the Planning Commission in June, and the council would choose the winning projects in July.
