The Red Cross is gearing up nationwide to meet the expected need for HUMAN SKIN, as essential as donated blood to doctors trying to save wounded and burned soldiers. Special teams nationwide are harvesting skin from cadavers to be stored to treat soldiers injured in the Gulf War, according to the Red Cross. The international aid group is also promoting organ donorship to help meet the demand. The skin of about 90% of all people who die is suitable, but only about 1% donate.
