LA HABRA : School Board Looks at Cuts in Budget
The La Habra City School District might have to cut $1.5 million from its $17-million budget if Gov. Pete Wilson’s state budget proposal is approved, Supt. Richard Hermann said.
Faculty and classified personnel layoffs as well as program cuts are expected, although Hermann said it would be premature to provide details.
“We’re considering all areas at this point and time,” he said.
A committee of district trustees is expected to make its recommendation by early March for reducing or eliminating any jobs or programs.
Faculty cuts hinge primarily on the class size ratio, which now averages 25 students for every teacher. If the committee decides to increase the ratio to 30 to 1, up to 17 teachers could be laid off.
