NATION : War News Fan Commits Suicide

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A man apparently obsessed with television war coverage shot himself to death today after firing at SWAT team members who had surrounded his home, police said.
Carlos Wade Bennett’s wife told police that he had been watching television, usually the Cable News Network, all hours of the day. He had slept little since the war began.
“He indicated that he knew it was the end of the world and that he was going to take his own life,” said police Sgt. Mike Brewer. Bennett, 40, an unemployed carpenter, was not a veteran, and authorities did not have information indicating any ties to the military.
