Rams’ Turner to Run Cowboy Offense

Dallas Cowboy Coach Jimmy Johnson, looking to duplicate the effectiveness of the Rams’ offensive system and needing someone after being turned down by Miami Dolphin assistant Gary Stevens, Friday hired Ram receivers coach Norval Turner as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator.

“I’ve sat and talked with (Ram Coach) John Robinson and (offensive coordinator) Ernie Zampese about it,” said Turner at a Dallas news conference. “They said, ‘That’s a helluva opportunity if you want to go after it.’ ”

Turner, 38, just finished his sixth season with the Rams, and is the second member of Robinson’s staff to leave for a coordinator’s job in the past few weeks.
