WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : USC Called for 37 Fouls in 77-63 Loss

Lisa Leslie, held scoreless in the first half, fouled out with eight minutes left, and four other Trojans also fouled out as the USC women’s basketball team lost to 13th-ranked Washington, 77-63, Sunday in a Pacific 10 game before 4,619 at Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle.

There were 63 fouls, 37 on USC.

USC, 10-9 overall and 4-5 in the Pac-10, trailed, 45-25, with 15:41 left and managed to get within nine points with 2:43 left but could get no closer.

Washington (15-3, 7-2) set school records by making 33 of 46 free throws. They scored only two baskets in the final 10 minutes in beating USC for the fifth time in a row.

Shaunda Greene, a junior from Morningside High, scored a career-high 19 points to lead Washington. She set school records by making 13 of 18 free throws.

USC’s Leslie, a freshman from Morningside, scored only 10 points. The Trojans’ top scorer was Tammy Story with 14 points.

Washington State 78, UCLA 77--Camille Thompson and Dawn Allinger each made two free throws in the final 26 seconds as the Cougars (13-5, 5-3) won in a Pacific 10 game at Pullman, Wash.

Rehema Stephens scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Bruins (10-9, 5-4), who led, 45-37, at halftime and, 54-49, when center Natalie Williams went out with her fourth foul with 14:50 left.

It was tied, 74-74, before Thompson and Allinger went to the line to make it 78-74 with five seconds left. Stephens made a three-pointer with one second left.

Kristin Metson and Darci Wellsandt each scored 17 points to lead Washington State and Allinger had 15.
