Authorities swarmed into an apartment in Queens early today and rescued the 14-year-old son of two bankers from kidnapers who had abducted the boy from the family’s Long Island mansion. Two Romanian immigrants were arrested and the ransom was recovered.

The youth, William McClean IV of Upper Brookville on Long Island’s affluent North Shore, was not hurt in the two-day ordeal. More than than 100 police and FBI agents were involved in the 55-hour drama during which the news media held off reporting developments as the net around the abductors was slowly tightened.

Police also recovered a ransom, reportedly $200,000, paid by the boy’s parents, William McClean III and his wife, Ferrell.
