WORLD : Bugging Above Yeltsin’s Office
A group of officials broke into two KGB rooms over the office of Russian President Boris N. Yeltsin and found bugging devices, Soviet media reported today.
The legislators, independent communication experts, prosecution investigators and two KGB agents opened the rooms Wednesday night and found the devices and a nest of antennas, the Interfax news agency said. The Independent Newspaper said the rooms were occupied by the KGB.
The group was investigating claims that the secret police agency was eavesdropping on all telephone lines at the Russian Federation building, Interfax said.
Yeltsin is a popular rival of Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev and the focus of hard-liners’ fury over the disintegration of the Soviet Union. He has alleged KGB harassment in the past.
