Countywide : Meeting on Water Restrictions Delayed

Share

A meeting of the State Water Resources Board scheduled for Thursday to discuss proposed restrictions on water use was postponed until Feb. 26.

Board members will participate on the new Governor’s Drought Action Task Force to coordinate efforts with other state and federal agencies, board Chairman W. Don Maughan said.

The state board was to have met in Sacramento to decide which of 18 statewide restrictions to enact, including the possibility of allowing only enough agricultural water to maintain citrus, avocados and other perennials. The action would devastate Ventura County farmers who grow annuals such as strawberries, flowers and vegetables, growers say.

The task force will issue its first report next Friday and the state board will consider its recommendations before taking action on the drought proposals, Maughan said.
