Pyewacket Holds Lead Near Finish

Pyewacket, a 70-foot yacht owned by Roy E. Disney of the California Yacht Club, continued to lead the Marina del Rey-to-Puerto Vallarta race Thursday, 20 miles from the finish line and two miles ahead of the closest competitor.

Silver Bullet, owned by John DeLaura of the Waikiki Yacht Club, was in pursuit with 22 miles to go. Also within challenging range was Taxi Dancer of the Long Beach Yacht Club with 25 miles remaining.

Winds were light and variable to five knots.

The final results of the race won’t be known until all the competitors finish and will be announced at about 11:30 a.m. today, a spokesman for the Del Rey Yacht Club said.
