ROUNDUP : War-Related Loss at Northwest

The nation’s fourth-largest carrier cited war-related factors for its $121-million fourth-quarter loss, contrasted with a profit of $116 million in the year-ago period. For the full year 1990, the airline said it lost $10 million, contrasted with a $355-million profit in 1989. The St. Paul, Minn.-based airline attributed its losses to extraordinary increases in fuel prices, higher security costs and operating expenses. Northwest’s privately held parent, NWA, had a 1990 net loss of $302 million.
