Sinead O’Connor and the Values of the American Music Industry

I realize that many will take issue with the fact of 24-year-old O’Connor disparaging her peers. But perhaps her youthful idealism and passion are what is so sadly missing from today’s cultural landscape.

The irony is that many performers who sing about love, peace and a better world are absorbed in a lifestyle of luxury, are isolated from the common man and ultimately are absorbed by the very system they criticize. O’Connor is perceptive and courageous to call attention to this.

Our “artists” have reneged on their social responsibilities. That smoked glass on the windows of the limo shuts out a lot of reality.
