Utah Restricts Abortions

Your editorial informs us that Utah has now made abortion against the law except in the most qualified circumstances. As your editorial points out, this is a sad situation indeed.

What you fail to mention is that women who cannot obtain legal abortions and cannot afford to fly out of state will resort to back-alley abortions. This new law not only puts women in a position of having unwanted babies, but also puts them in life-threatening positions when they have to turn to, in most cases, people untrained in medicine and, worse, in unsanitary conditions. Women who want abortions will get them whether or not they are legal. We need laws that will provide medical help for these women.
