Redgrave Explains Remarks: Actress Vanessa Redgrave, an outspoken supporter of the Palestine Liberation Organization, took out an advertisement in the New York Times on Friday to clarify remarks she made at a peace rally in Barcelona, Spain, just before the fighting started in the Persian Gulf. Redgrave’s ad says the media unfairly focused on the part of her speech in which she said “we must unconditionally defend Iraq against American, British or Israeli troops” and ignored her call for an Iraqi withdrawal from Kuwait. “In context, the (Barcelona) statement fully supported a peaceful, negotiated settlement of the crisis,” Redgrave said in her ad.
