World IN BRIEF : HAITI : Eight Top Officers Resign From Army

Haiti’s army said that eight top military officers had retired, as requested by President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the newly inaugurated leader who has launched a reform program to demilitarize the country and ease tensions between the army and civilians. The army has also reportedly agreed to begin separating its military function from the police force.
