Across China and around the world, Chinese families and people of some other Asian nationalities will welcome the traditional lunar New Year on Friday with firecrackers, reunions, feasts and outings.
Most workers in China, where the holiday is called Spring Festival, will enjoy a four- or five-day weekend.
The government always ensures plentiful Spring Festival food supplies. But according to the official media, it has made special efforts this year to boost availability of items such as pork, cakes, cigarettes and liquor to unprecedented levels. Department stores have also organized special exhibitions and commodity fairs.
