Emmett Shannon; Retired Real Estate Broker

Emmett R. (Mike) Shannon, who worked as a real estate broker in the San Fernando Valley for more than 30 years, has died at a Van Nuys hospital.

He was 81.

A longtime Northridge resident, Shannon died Sunday of complications of old age, said his wife, Florence Shannon.

Born in Minneapolis, Shannon came to California in 1936.

He worked as a car salesman before he entered real estate in the mid-1950s.

He worked as a real estate broker and district manager for Forest E. Olson Inc. in Van Nuys, later transferring to Viking Realty in Northridge.

He retired in the mid-1980s at the age of 75.

Shannon was a member of the Al Malaikah Shrine Temple, the Royal Arch Masons in San Fernando and the San Fernando Valley Council of Cryptic Masons of California.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years; son Robert Dennis Shannon of Rosamond, Calif.; daughter Sandra Lee Shannon Galasso of Northridge; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be private.

J.T. Oswald Mortuary in Reseda will be handling the arrangements.

Donations can be made in Shannon’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Los Angeles.
