Bill Mulligan, who has guided UC Irvine’s men’s basketball team for 11 seasons, resigned today, effective at the end of this season.

The 60-year-old Mulligan, who still had a year left on his $78,000-a-year contract, has seen his team, after winning only 5 of 28 last season, struggle again this year, winning only 8 of 25 games with five games remaining.

Mulligan has posted a 160-154 won-lost record at Irvine, guiding the Anteaters to the National Invitation Tournament in 1982 and ’86.
