PLATFORM : God Taking Sides?

A young child asked her mother if God was on our side in the Gulf War. The mother responded, “God is on the side of the suffering.”

Vice President Dan Quayle declared that from his studies of Thomas Aquinas: “Operation Desert Storm is truly a just war. It’s a question of ‘Are we on God’s side?’ Not every war is moral. Not every war is just. But this one is.”

This war is unjust. A large proportion of religious leaders believe this war is wrong and does not fulfill the criteria of a “just war.”

I will continue to pray with people of different faiths as we call for a cease-fire and negotiations. Many of us will be acting as patriotic Americans.

Whose side is God on? I believe the question can only be answered by looking through the eyes of another.War is immoral, unjust and wrong. Let us not take sides, but instead act as peacemakers as we stand with the suffering. For God is on the side of the suffering.
