Midori Ito, the spectacular jumper who won the 1989 women’s world figure skating title, may miss the 1991 championships next month because of training time lost for surgery on her jaw, her coach said today.

“Ito had two operations on her jaw’s salivary gland after entering a hospital on Jan. 26. She has been discharged from the hospital and is OK now, but I am not sure if she will be able to compete in the world championships because of lack of training,” Machiko Yamada said.

The world championships start March 12 in Munich.
