6 Are Charged in Bookmaking Inquiry
Six people who ran a bookmaking operation in Van Nuys for the past eight months were arrested Thursday, Los Angeles police said.
The arrests culminated a three-month investigation by vice officers from the Foothill Division with assistance from Van Nuys officers, Sgt. Al Yarbrough said.
Arrested were: Alice Jo Bradley, 37, of Van Nuys; Joseph Hart, 60, of Sepulveda; Salvador Legaspi, 46, of San Fernando; Kathleen Hopper, 29, of Pacoima; Guadalupe Hernandez, 46, of Pacoima, and Leonard Mitchell, 53, of Pacoima.
All were charged with bookmaking and held in lieu of $2,500 bail.
The group ran the operation from an apartment in the 14000 block of Friar Street in Van Nuys, Yarbrough said.
While serving the six search warrants, officers confiscated recorded wagers and also found rock cocaine at one of the locations, Yarbrough said.
