Jury deliberations will continue today in the murder retrial of Roger Sing Ip, who is charging with killing a 15-year-old boy after a near-collision in traffic.
Ip, 35, of Spring Valley, concluded his testimony Thursday, and attorneys presented final arguments before the Superior Court jury recessed.
Ip testified that the July 10, 1989, shooting of Kurt Yokes, a Mission Bay High School student, was an accident after his truck lurched forward and his gun went off.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Gregg McClain urged a conviction on second-degree murder, and Ip’s attorney, Michael Popkins, argued for an outright acquittal.
In Ip’s first trial, jurors acquitted him of first-degree murder July 26, but deadlocked on lesser homicide charges for which he is being retried.
