Right-hander Doug Drabek of the Pittsburgh Pirates tripled his salary with the highest award and biggest raise in baseball arbitration history when arbitrator Raymond Goetz selected his figure of $3.335 million over the club’s $2.3 million.

But the record may not last long. Teammate Bobby Bonilla, seeking $3.475 million, presented his case to an arbitrator Thursday. Bonilla, if successful, would match Drabek’s record raise of $2.225 million, but that could be eclipsed by another Pirate, Barry Bonds, who will be seeking a $2.4-million raise to $3.250 million when he goes to arbitration next week.

Angel first baseman Wally Joyner had broken Don Mattingly’s arbitration record of $1.975 million when he was awarded $2.1 million last Saturday.
