Sony to Help Build Laptop Computer: The Japanese company will manufacture major portions of a new laptop being developed by Apple Computer Inc., Sony officials said. Sony will not market the computer under its name, said the officials, who requested anonymity. The computer magazine MacWeek, quoting sources close to Apple, recently said the laptop will weigh about 5.5 pounds, have a built-in modem and a 40-megabyte hard disk drive, and list for less than $2,500.
