OXNARD : Worker for Edison Is Critically Burned
A 25-year-old worker contracted by Southern California Edison to do routine maintenance work on a boiler at its Oxnard plant was critically burned when a valve broke, spraying the man with scalding water.
Mark Cartwright was in critical condition Friday night with second- and third-degree burns over 75% of his body, a spokeswoman for Sherman Oaks Community Hospital said.
Cartwright was servicing the boiler about 6 p.m. Wednesday when the valve broke and 250-degree water spewed out, said Mike Montoya, Edison’s Ventura manager.
