From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A Soviet delegation inspected a U.S. Army plant that ceased production of a nerve agent component 33 years ago but only last year began disposing of the chemical operation. The tour of the Phosphate Development Works on a Tennessee Valley Authority reservation in north Alabama marks the eighth inspection of a U.S. chemical weapons site under the U.S.-Soviet Chemical Weapons Destruction Agreement of 1989. The same number of Soviet chemical weapons sites have been inspected by American delegations under the pact, officials said.
