THE GULF WAR: The Diplomatic Front : In Europe

SWEDEN ordered four Iraqi diplomats to leave Stockholm, accusing them of spying on refugees, the Foreign Ministry said. It declined to say whether the four were alleged to have spied on fellow Iraqis or whether the diplomats had already left Sweden. Iraq’s embassy staff in Stockholm includes a charge d’affaires and nine other diplomats. The SOVIET government newspaper Izvestia questioned Moscow’s post-Cold War alliance with the United States, saying “we are siding with murderers in this slaughter in the Gulf.” In his most strident commentary on the war, influential author Stanislav Kondrashov wrote that the allied military effort has become “Desert Slaughter.”
