SIERRA MADRE — The City Council has voted to use $59,575 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds to help fix up some of the city’s run-down houses.
According to a Planning Department survey last September, there were about 115 “deteriorating and dilapidated houses” in Sierra Madre that might need repair. In 1973, there were 329 run-down homes in the city limits.
Those who are eligible to apply for the grant funds include senior and disabled citizens, one-parent families and low-income homeowners, City Administrator James McRea said. The City Council voted Tuesday to earmark $53,618 for repairs and $5,957 for administrative and monitoring costs.
